Apply for retirement pension
Retirement pension is money you receive from NAV when you get older. Here we show you how to check what you're entitled to and how to apply.
How to apply for retirement pension
Before applying, you should check what you can get. Go to nav.no and log in. Search for "Din pensjon" or go to "Pensjon" in the menu. Here you see how much you can get at different ages.

Who can get retirement pension?
You can start receiving retirement pension when you:
- Are between 62 and 75 years old (you choose when to start)
- Have lived or worked in Norway for at least 5 years after turning 16
- Are a member of the National Insurance Scheme
Important choices you must make
When should you start?
The earlier you take out pension, the less you get per month. If you wait until 67, you get full pension. Take it at 62, and you get less - but over more years.
How much do you want to withdraw?
You can withdraw 20%, 40%, 50%, 60%, 80% or 100% of your pension. You can work alongside without your pension being reduced.
Do you want to combine with work?
You can work as much as you want alongside retirement pension. Your income does not affect the pension.

Important to know about retirement pension
Tax deduction
Tax is deducted from your pension. You can change the tax deduction at skatteetaten.no.
Payment
Pension is usually paid around the 20th of each month.
Can be changed
You can change the withdrawal rate (how much you withdraw) once per year.
Working alongside
You can work as much as you want without your pension being reduced. You also continue to earn more pension if you work.
Common questions about retirement pension
When should I withdraw pension?
It depends on your situation. If you withdraw early (62-66), you get less per month, but over more years. If you wait until 67 or later, you get more per month. Use the calculator on nav.no to see what suits you.
Can I work and have pension at the same time?
Yes! You can work as much as you want without your pension being reduced. You even continue to earn more pension when you work.
What is the difference between retirement pension and AFP?
Retirement pension is from the National Insurance Scheme (NAV) and everyone is entitled to it. AFP is a supplementary pension from employers who have an AFP agreement. You can have both at the same time.
Can I regret if I withdraw pension too early?
No, you cannot stop the withdrawal completely once you have started. But you can reduce the withdrawal rate down to 20%.
