Apply for unemployment benefits

Go to nav.no and log in with BankID or MinID. Click "Log in" in the top right corner of the page.

After logging in, go to "Ditt NAV" or "My services". Then click on "Applications" or search for "dagpenger" in the search field. Select "Application for unemployment benefits".

The application starts by showing your personal information (name, address, etc.). Check that this is correct. If something is wrong, you must change it in the Population Register before continuing.

Select why you are applying for unemployment benefits: have you lost your job, been laid off, or had reduced working hours? Answer all questions honestly.

You must upload documents that confirm your situation. This can be a termination letter, layoff notice, or employment contract. Click "Upload file" and select the document from your computer.

NAV automatically retrieves information about your previous income from the Tax Office. Check that this looks correct. If you have had income that is not showing, you must add it manually.

The application may contain more questions about your situation, such as whether you have other income, are in school, or have health problems that affect job searching. Answer everything honestly.

Before submitting, you get a summary of the application. Read through everything carefully. If something is wrong, go back and correct it. When everything is correct, click "Submit application".

You will receive confirmation on screen and by email/SMS that the application has been received. Check nav.no/dagpenger for current processing times. Remember to submit the employment status form every 14 days!
