Apply for parental benefits

Go to nav.no and log in with BankID. Click "Log in" in the top right corner.

Search for "foreldrepenger" in the search field, or go to "Family and children" and select "Application for parental benefits". You can apply at the earliest 4 weeks before the due date.

Confirm your personal information: name, address, and bank account number. Check that the account number is correct - that's where the money will go.

Enter the due date or birth date. If the child is born, also provide the child's name and national ID number. For adoption, provide the date of care transfer.

You can choose between 100% coverage for 49 weeks or 80% coverage for 59 weeks. The total amount is the same, but the distribution is different.

Distribute the weeks between mother and father/co-mother. Remember that some weeks are reserved for mother (3 weeks before birth) and some are reserved for father (paternity quota of 15 weeks).

You may be asked to upload confirmation of due date from doctor/midwife, or documentation of work income if NAV doesn't have this.

Review all the information. When everything is correct, click "Submit application". You will receive confirmation by email.
