Ask your employer - some companies have agreements with specific banks.

What do you need?

  • Personal number or D-number (from the Population Registry)
  • Valid passport or other ID
  • Documentation of where you live (rental contract or similar)
  • Some banks also require an employment contract

Popular banks in Norway

DNB

Norway's largest bank. Has many branches and good online banking. Can be slightly more expensive.

Nordea

Large Nordic bank with good customer service. Often offers good terms for newcomers.

SpareBank 1

Cooperation between local savings banks. Good prices and local presence.

Sbanken

Online bank without branches. Often lower prices, everything is done digitally.

Important about BankID

BankID is Norway's most used digital ID. With BankID you can log in to public services, sign documents digitally, and use Vipps. Make sure to set this up when you open your bank account.
