About passport
Passport is a travel document that confirms your identity. You need a passport to travel to countries outside the Nordic region.
Norwegian passport is valid for 10 years for adults and 5 years for children under 16.
What you need
- Valid ID (old passport, driver's license or bank card with photo)
- Payment (see politiet.no for current prices)
- Appointment booking with the police
- Old passport (if you have one)
How to order a passport
Go to politiet.no and select "Book appointment". Select "Passport" and find available time at the nearest passport office.
Tip!
During holiday season there can be long waiting time - book well in advance!
Useful tips
- Book appointment early - especially before summer there is long waiting time
- Children must bring both parents or authorization
- The passport must be valid for at least 6 months for many destinations
- Lost passport must be reported to police before you can get a new one
- You can get emergency passport same day in special cases
