Housing allowance is a government support scheme for those with low income and high housing costs. Both tenants and homeowners can apply.
What is housing allowance?
Housing allowance is money from Husbanken to help you pay for your home. It's means-tested, meaning your income and housing costs determine if you get support.
You can get housing allowance whether you rent or own your home. The support is paid monthly directly to your account.
Who can get housing allowance?
- You must live in the home you apply for support for
- The home must be approved for year-round use
- You must have legal residence in Norway
- Your income must be below a certain limit
- Your housing costs must be above a certain limit
